The Hacker Academy- 2 Weeks After Launch

June 5, 2010

So we did it…we have changed the way training in our industry exists today.  This isn’t meant to be a sales piece and I promise it isn’t, but after 2 weeks of the membership based Hacker Academy I thought it was important to share what has transpired.  There have been some really funny incidents, some not so great moments and most importantly a whole lot of learning (members and us).  It started with our first member catching us off guard 6 hours before launch, somehow clicked a test button we just happened to make public for 3 minutes (talk about timing!).  Of course as with anything new we had our share of minor bugs, a few links that didn’t work properly etc. all of which have been fixed now.  Instead of this becoming a problem we decided to make a contest out of it, if a member reported a bug to us, they receive a t-shirt that says “I hacked The Hacker Academy”, why not right?  And really, what I think is the coolest part of what has happened so far is that in the first 2 weeks we have members from all over the world including 6 of 7 continents: Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and North America… don’t think we have Antarctica just yet.  When I said we above, that meant we together have changed the information security training landscape.  For the first time people can receive proper hands-on training no matter what time zone they are in.

So a big thank you to our Charter Members, and if you are not currently a member we can’t wait for you to join the training revolution.  We took a risk when we decided to change, so I part you with this quote from author Frederick B. Wilcox, “Progress always involves risks.  You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first”.
